On the page in my demo store where I'm featuring the Sorted Products/Sections/Search add-on (http://www.artinet.co.uk/acatalog/Sort-By.html), there's a fragment at the top, which is where it stays when either Price: low...high or A...Z are selected, but it goes to the bottom when Price: high...low or Z...A are selected.

Is it possible to exclude fragments from the sorting?

Afraid not. Fragments are essentially zero priced items and are part of the normal Product List. I can't think of any way to keep them in place. For example you might have a fragment half way down that introduces the next few products. There's no way that I can think of letting the sorter know where to anchor it.
